Is the Barcelona hop-on hop-off tourist bus worth it?
- €33
- bus, 24 hours
- €12
- T-dia, 1 zone
The bus is worth it for one big sightseeing day, with an audio guide and no planning. It costs from €33 for 24 hours.
For rides alone, it is not. A T-dia day ticket for public transport costs €12 for zone 1. Our guide to the T-dia and other tickets explains how it works.
You do not need cheap car hire at Barcelona airport to see the city: the bus, your feet and the free sights cover it.
Compare the Barcelona hop-on hop-off buses
The two buses are close. City Sightseeing lists more frequent buses and dates you can move. Barcelona City Tour has a host on board and more reviews.
Barcelona City Tour: the two-route bus from Plaça de Catalunya
Barcelona City Tour runs a green route from Plaça de Catalunya and an orange route from La Pedrera. Buses start at 9:00. The last bus leaves at 18:00 from November to March, and at 19:00 from April to October.
The audio guide comes in 16 languages, with a hearing loop. The route can change on days with big events.
City Sightseeing: buses every 10 to 25 minutes
City Sightseeing runs a red and a blue route. The first bus leaves Stop 1 at 9 AM, and the last at 7 PM. Each route takes about 120 minutes.
It runs all year except 1 January and 25 December. You can move your date up to 3 months, and a 48-hour ticket must be used on two days in a row.
Hop-on hop-off Barcelona map: routes and stops
Both tickets come with a city map of the routes and stops. You get it with your ticket, so you do not need to print one.
The first stop sits by the top of Las Ramblas and Santa Ana's old streets. Hop off at Plaça de Catalunya for things to do in Barri Gòtic, Barcelona.
Barcelona City Tour passes the Sagrada Família, but going inside needs a ticket. Our Sagrada Família tickets guide compares them.
Barcelona City Tour also stops at Park Güell and Port Olímpic. The seafront stops are the start of a walk to a Barceloneta beach bar.
Bus plus a cruise, the Aquarium or a museum
A combo saves a second booking, and the cruise is the cheapest add-on.
The bus-and-cruise ticket adds a 1-hour sail along the coast, from €44. If bad weather cancels the cruise, you get another day or part of your money back. For more boats, see our boat tours guide.
The bus-and-Aquarium ticket costs from €63, and the Aquarium entry is good for one visit. Our Barcelona Aquarium guide has more.
The bus-and-Moco Museum ticket costs from €51. It has only 16 reviews and a lower rating, 3.57, so book it for the museum, not the bus.
Where to catch the bus and where to buy tickets
Both buses start at Plaça de Catalunya, in the center. You can also get on at any stop on the route.
Buy your ticket online and show it on your phone. We found no price at the stop to compare, so we cannot say if online is cheaper.
Who the bus suits: families, couples, solo travelers
The bus suits families, since kids can sit and still see a lot. The bus and the Aquarium are easy things to do in Barcelona with a teenager.
For two, the bus-and-cruise ticket is one of the easy things to do in Barcelona as a couple. On your own, the bus is one of the simple things to do in Barcelona solo: you set the pace. And when you hop off away from the big sights, you find local things to do in Barcelona.
Other bus tours of Barcelona
The hop-on hop-off bus is the main bus tour in Barcelona. Day trips by coach go further, to Montserrat or Girona.
If you would rather have a guide than a headset, compare our Barcelona, Spain tours by the day or half day.
